Digicel Applauds the Seamanship of the Participants of the 26th ARC!

“They sailed from the safe harbor of the Canary Islands with the trade winds in
their sails for over two weeks on a mission to explore, dream and discover.”

CASTRIES, ST. LUCIA, Friday 2nd, December 2011: One thing that the 1,188 brave souls in the 217 boats which include twenty-six under-18 sailors can expect when they enter the Rodney bay Marina on the completion of their 2,700 mile journey across the Atlantic, is a rousing welcome put on by Platinum Sponsors of ARC; Digicel, the Bigger, Better Network! Digicel continues support ARC with an investment of EC$150,000 cash and kind.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Digicel has been privileged to be the Platinum sponsor of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. This is the 26th edition of the world’s most popular Trans ocean rally and once again the Digicel flotilla of crafts will meet and escort the sailors into the safety and serenity of the Rodney Bay Marina.

At a press conference held last week Marketing Manager, Digicel St. Lucia commented, ‘ARC 2011 promises to be bigger and better than ever before and Digicel is working closely with SLTB and IGY to bring you a number of great events including the much anticipating Christmas after work party called ARC in the Park on December 9, 2011 with performances from St Lucia’s leading artistes”.

Embarking on a 2,700 mile journey across the Atlantic is no mean mission. You need a good boat, a good sailing plan and a sense of adventure. Sailors can expect weather of just about any kind over the two to three weeks of the trip. It’s risky, but to those who embark it’s often a fulfillment of their dream of conquering the Atlantic Ocean in a small sailing vessel.

The bravery, determination and mission of the ARC participants is similar to one undertaken by Digicel just over 8 years ago, when we embarked on bringing better value, better service and better network to as many persons as possible here in St Lucia and the wider Caribbean. That mission was no less arduous against an incumbent of over 100 years, but like theirs has proven no less fulfilling and enjoyable.

While here, the visiting sailors would be able to stay connected with family and friends via the Bigger, Better Network whether they do so on their favourite Social Network or simply make calls. Whichever they chose they can always expect the best value and best service for which Digicel has become renowned.

Digicel is once again pleased to support ARC which once again gives St Lucia international exposure and assists our partners at the St Lucia Tourist Board in achieving their objective of attracting more visitors and investors to the island.

At Digicel we understand that the adventure in a great mission is not at the conclusion but during the mission and join in wholeheartedly congratulating all involved in making this another successful ARC. Next year, the mission continues and we plan again to be there.
