Digicel’s Junior Carnival band, Just Us kids won three major titles for Junior Carnival 2012
JULY 10TH, 2012 Castries, St. Lucia: Digicel sponsored Just us Kids Carnival band captured many prizes at the staging of Junior Carnival 2012. The kids band boast the first ever carnival princess winner and through their portrayal of “Earth Song” won Junior King of the Bands and Junior Band of the year 2012.
Just Us Kids Junior Carnival Band was created eight (8) years ago by Barry George who wanted to create a unique carnival experience for kids. Starting off in 2005 Just us kids has become one of St. Lucia’s leading Junior Carnival Bands which have contributed greatly to the development of Junior Carnival with the level of participation which grows every year.
Obtaining the title of Junior Band of the year 2011, Digicel was excited to be part of the bands portrayal for 2012. Deciding of the theme ‘Earth Song’ Darwin Guard designed six sections (Mama Zona, Mount Gimie, Quilesse, Latair, Soleil and Troumasse) which told the story of our mother land St Lucia, the negative practices St Lucians have on the environment and advocating change for a better tomorrow.
On Sunday July 8, 2012 at the Vigie Sports Complex after months of preparation and hard work, Just us Kids walked away with the Junior King of the year title and for the second time running, Junior Band of the year 2012. Not concluding at those accolades the band also had a representative (Kerchelle Smith) participating in the first ever Carnival Princess and won that competition as well.
Kerchelle Jn Charles, Digicel’s Marketing Manager commented, “Digicel is very pleased with the success of the Just us Kids Junior Carnival Band and has always admired the fact of including the kids in the art of costume building. These skills learnt are passed on to the younger generation allowing for continuity in this art and the carnival festival. Congratulations Just us Kids and By extension Barry George, you made Digicel proud”
