FRENZIED RECEPTION FOR WINDIES PLAYERS AT FINAL DIGICEL CRICKET EXPERIENCE
Saturday, April 11 2009 – Castries, St. Lucia: Digicel, The Bigger, Better Network and Proud Sponsor of West Indies Cricket on Thursday April 2nd, afforded St. Lucians the opportunity to interact and get up close with six members of the West Indies Cricket team. With a huge crowd gathered in much anticipation of the arrival of the players, excitement filled their air on the outside of The Bigger, Better Digicel Store located on the corner of Bridge and Micoud Street.
As a mix of generations of cricket lovers quickly gathered, most persons engaged in conversation about their favourite cricketer and sense of fulfilment of meeting that player. Shrieks of joy and excitement were dispelled as the bus with the players came to halt on Bridge Street. The players, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kieron Pollard, Ravi Rampaul, Lendl Simmons and local player Darren Sammy, walked into the packed Digicel store, where the frenzied fans were not shy in showing their support of the West Indies team. The six West Indies stars interacted with their St. Lucia fans by playing trivia games and signing autographs.
One fan, Sharon, spoke of her excitement in meeting the Windies players: “What a great day! I’m not even sure I can really express just how special today was for me. Bravo kissed me on my cheek and I may not wash my cheek again. Thank you Digicel.”
The St. Lucia leg of the Digicel Cricket Experience was the end of DCE for the Digicel Series 2009: West Indies vs. England. Fans can look forward to more DCE during the Digicel Series 2009: West indies vs. India and West Indies vs. Bangladesh.
